System Repair will delete personal stuff?

    Repair Install:
    "You cannot do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode"

    Nope... I did it at boot - because I could not even get Safe mode start at boot: only: Normal (hanged ) and Repair... (said: recomended) - but it failed to resolve anything.

    So I boot from original DVD - "repair someting" (don't remember) - it looked for files that needed repair: it listed them, did some settings - and everything looked fine; just user profiles were lost (and video drivers).

    Although this thread is almost 1 1/2 years old, it sounds like your "System Repair" was a Repair Install. If it was, some of the things that will be reset to default or affected include Sounds, Services, Visual Effects, Drivers, Custom Themes, Gadgets, and Windows Updates.
