    Quick launch disappears

    Hello, im new here

The quick launch disappears when I reboot. Then I have to re-enable it with

    "%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch".

I read another thread that says the clue is to do this:

"go to Start –> Run –> regedit

    and find the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindows
    CurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer

On the right hand pane select NoSaveSettings and make sure its value is 0."

This thread is for XP, but I guess it is also a solution in windows 7 also.

I tried to do this, but I only have up to policies. Policies is empty.

Somebody know something about this? How to get the quick launch to stay, not disappear?

Hello 1976kjell, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if the items listed in the yellow TIP box at the top of the tutorial below for Quick Launch may be able to help you with this.

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

That's great news so far. Hopefully it will no longer sneak out on you. :)

Not to unnecessarily continue my issue, but I observed one interesting site: Neil Black - Windows 7 Toolbar Hacks - The Disappearing Toolbar Hack

Regedit is almost totally identical in my system as in this site. I tried to make a new DWORD VALUE with the name "NoSaveSettings". Then a box appeared where it stood that this name could not be used, cause it was already in use. Ok, Then I tried to search after "NoSaveSettings" in regedit, but it wasnt possible to find there. I made one new DWORD VALUE with the name "nosavesettings"(small letters). That was accepted, But I guess this will not help cause it has small letters

So what could be the solution here? :)

NoSaveSettings is not in the Windows 7 registry by default. If you are not having issues anymore, then I would not recommend to add it to the registry.

This is what it does: "Don't save settings on exit"
Prevents users from saving certain changes to the desktop.

If you enable (1) this setting, users can change the desktop, but some changes, such as the position of open windows or the size and position of the taskbar, are not saved when users log off. However, shortcuts placed on the desktop are always saved.

    Disabled: "NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000
    Enabled: "NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000001

    Not Configured (removed): (restart afterwards)
