It is probably a protected movie.

What does it have to do with DRM when it's probably a AVI files or other format? I don't think that's the problem here. I think that when burns are getting impossible and that discs are getting are to read, you might just want to invest 30$ into getting a new CD/DVD combo drive.

To scorpionman, try these out :
    1. Try to burn a different type of media; like a CD-Audio
    2. Try a different brand of CD and DVD
    3. Try to read purchased CDs and DVDs.
    4. Try an external CD/DVD combo drive.

If 1 to 3 fail and 4 works, it's your CD/DVD drive that weared out because of usage. I suggest changing your CD/DVD drive.
