I just opened 6 apps, resized them and move them around the desktop. Closed and reopened and they were just where I left them.

I rebooted and opened again and they were once again right where I had put them.

So I don't what's happening to you to cause the problem but it doesn't exist here.

Did LFB's post work for you?

The Explorer window size and position problem has been carried forward into the purchased version of Windows 7. As stated in a previous post, they (MS) doesn't consider this a problem for you and me, even after thousands of complaints.

I purchased "WindowManager" (suggested by a poster) for $10 US and it's absolutely terrific, solved the problem. Here's the link DeskSoft - WindowManager - Window position and size manager - Best, IM

None of the registry tricks worked for me. Using the demo of WindowManager right now, looks like it'll solve the problem perfectly.

This isn't regarding app windows. It's Windows Explorer windows.

Very strange problem. I found this thread looking to prevent Windows to assign folder templates automatically - I want all my folders to look the same. If I ever need a folder with photos to show thumbnails I can click the corresponding button, but otherwise I want the folder to look the same as all other folders. The registry hack shown in this thread seems to do the trick, but I will play with it for a few days to be sure.

Now, what is the problem with Explorer windows? If I close the Explorer and then reopen it - it shows up at the same place, it always has the same size, always opens to the same folder - naturally the one defined in the shortcut - and hopefully the registry hack will help me to get rid of the automatic template nonsense. OK, I can open more than one window - but surely if I use the same shortcut to do this they will keep showing up at the same place - you don't expect the same shortcut to remember how many windows you have opened? Or do you mean that you have more that one shortcut but they still don't remember their respective positions? Do you have them run as separate processes?

The reg hack didnt work for me, i too have to readjust EVERYTHING and that gets old cuz i do files and videos swapping from folder to folder.

am wondering though how many extra programs are we Windows 7 users going to need running all time just to have the winXP feel again?

displayfusion for duel monitors, the one for folder positioning. i just dont like having all these miner programs running.
