Get the motherboard manual out or go to Asus support and download it.

In the manual find the section about overclocking in BIOS. It will show where to OC in BIOS and also how to go back to stock setttings.

You should have one of these if not both in Bios. Either will work.
1) Ai Tweaker menu> CPU level up on mine is one way. Has four settings- set to AUTO. Which is default.
2) Ai Overclock Tuner> Auto resets to Default as above does.

Not Quite Fumz. I have to press the clr_cmos on my motherboard, otherwise my computer runs at an OC'd speed. I haven't got a clue on how to fix it. It's been frustrating me for the longest time. If you're overheating, it isn't because your bios is pumping too many volts to the core. 1.3 volts is within the normal range for your chip given Speed Step. If you haven't overclocked yourself, it's hard to see how that could just up and happen all on its own?

Did you install the Asus overclocking tool off the cd? If you did, just uninstall it... you really don't need it, and if you do plan on overclocking (after you get a real heatsink), you'll do it in the bios anyway... so ditch that bundled pos.

Go download cpu-z: CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Boot up, do not clear cmos, do exactly what you'd do when you think the board is clocked, then run cpuz and give us a screenshot. That will definitively tell you whether there's any overclocking going on or not. To get past speed spep, run a game while it's open.

I will do this like you said, when I wake up in the morning. I'll take a screenshot or two with my desktop when I've done the clr_cmos button, and then tomorrow when i don't press it. I'll put the graphics together to make it easy for comparison.


To everyone whose posted: Thank you so much! Tom's Hardware Guide failed me, and then I got an email reminder about SevenForums, and I figured to try you guys. You paid off :). They just said "your heatsink sucks, and you need new thermal paste"

I've come to the conclusion about this topic;

What if theres nothing wrong with the hardware, and the heat that's being put out is just imaginary? CPUID works off the temperature sensors, right? What if the sensors are bad?
