    [Brightness] adjusting to virtual environment

    Hi there guys,

I have a problem with my dell inspiron m301z laptop,
Whenever there is something dark on my display ( this could be a picture or a website or something else) my brightness automatically adjusts to that environment. So its like the brightness is adjusting automatically depending on the virtual environment. I looked up the forum for similiar problems and tried some things with the power options and stuff but couldnt not fix it..

However this does not happen when the adapter is plugged in, everything stays equal all the time,

    Thank you guys.

So you are referring to a difference in behaviour when running on battery power versus mains power?

Yep, but this is a unusual behaviour, fe when there is something bright on my screen, the brightness adjusts to my display, and when i go to another website that is darker ( considering colors used etc) the brightness becomes lower. Its kind of weird. YOu understand what I'm trying to say? so basically depending on whats on my screen, the brightness changes automatically.
And this only happens when laptop runs on battery.

Have a look at this: Ambient Light Sensor. It seems to fit what you are describing.

Look at any supplied applications from dell that might be running?

Yep I did both what you guys told me to.
I am refering to an virtual environment, so not about a real life environment but an environment on my laptops display screen so as I said above:f.e when I am surving on a website with dark colours on it, such as Cracked.com - America's Only Humor & Video Site Since 1958 | Cracked.com the brightness sets automatically lower, but when i am at a more colorfull website such as this one, the brightness sets higher. So this leats do different brightnesses when I am at different websites and thats kind of annoying after a time.. I hope i am able to point out the problem :) thankyou guys.

Have you tried disabling it with the key combination mentioned in the documentation link I provided?

Looking at your laptop, do you have this sensor? Post a pic of the same area if you're not sure.
