Command Prompt Question (Please Help Me!)

I have a computer that is in a disasterous state. It will completely start up most of the time, only to freeze and restart within less than a minute. It then says "Operating System Not Found" upon attempting to boot. Once I see that, I have to hold the power button down to turn it off, then power it back up, watch it get to the desktop, freeze and start the whole process over again.

There is one folder on the desktop that I want to move to an external hard drive, but the computer freezes so quickly that I do not have time to do so. I would like to move this folder to the external hard drive and then restore the system to its factory settings. However, I am not sure if the computer will stay on long enough to do a system recovery, or if that will even fix my issues. That being said, if someone can help me figure out a way to move this folder to the external drive, that will be enough for me and I'll just throw the computer away if that's what it comes to.

I am very novice when it comes to using command prompt. However, I am wondering if there is a way that I can use command prompt before the system fully starts to move the folder. If someone can explain to me how to do this and what commands I need to use, I would be eternally grateful. Please help me.

    Thank you

    Give this tutorial a read.
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html

Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking if you might need the internet.
Screen Resolution is off because it uses default drivers but it is usable.
You can then move your folder.

I did a System Restore this way the other day. Once you move your folder you can also try Sytem Restore if you want.

Thanks. I'll take a look at that. However, I forgot to mention that the freezing problem also occurs in safe mode, so I'm not sure how much this will help me.

There is also an option for "Last known good configuration" that may at least get Windows to work through safe mode.

Safe mode freezes or Windows freezes after you select safe mode?

If I select safe mode, it gets to the desktop and Windows quickly freezes.

Go into safe mode and select Last known good configuration. That might get you into Windows thru safe mode.

Might not but worth a try.

Chime in zigzag if you have a better idea.

If you have a External HD, you could copy & paste your data.
Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Mount the hard drive in a different computer as a secondary drive or use a USB cable to connect it externally to another computer. Then you can copy what you need and address the problem.
