    Start up Time

Curious as to what the average windows 7 start up time for you all is.

I am using the 7100 RC 64bit, I've got 4 gigs of ram and my motherboard/cpu are only 2 years old.

But I feel like it should be starting up faster. From when I push the button to when I am ready to roll takes almost 2 minutes for me.

What's your average start up time? and could outdated bios drivers be my main cause of slow start up?

Last I checked, my reboot time is 27 seconds, when it's fully tweaked. I think that's pretty decent. The general consensus is that 7 boots much faster than Vista did and even faster than XP.

As for your potential BIOS issue, with a new OS, it would certainly be worth it to bite the bullet and update your BIOS.

from the time I push the power button until I have a functioning desktop is ~60 secs. It's nice that once you get to the desktop you can actually do stuff unlike Vista. Probably because Superfetch is a lot less aggressive in 7.

Ya I found that just now swarf. And I ran the program and got 80seconds. Which seemed decent enough I guess. What sucks is that the reboot 80 seconds time came up right when I saw my desktop. But there's about another 25 seconds before anything becomes fuctional because it's still loading programs and what not I guess.

Welcome to SF. Someone here knows the answer.
there is a separate thread (and tools) for reboot time. 2 minutes seems like a long time for 64 bit. Im running a 3year old dell 32 bit and start-up time is about 45 seconds.
Btw we could be more helpful if you filled out your "system specs" in control panel. If you cant find the thread or need more help feel free to PM me.

If you have multiple cpu cores theres a little trick you can do which is supposed to help shave off more time.

    1. run msconfig from the startmenu
    2. on the screen that appears, press the advanced options
    3. tick the box for number of processors
    4. enter the number of processors your cpu has and click ok
    5. now back on the original screen, click make all boot settings permanent
    6. then do the reboot test to see if its cut your time any further.
