    resize partition from driver d to c


    Hi All,

    The subject says it all - does anyone know how to resize partition c as I have not much space left in it and partition d has more space that I hardly use.

    Partition c has windows 7 installed in it. how do I make this partition bigger by transfering some space from partition d to partition c?

    Is there any reliable free software that I can use to do this? is this possbile or it is risky?

    I use Partition Wizard and it is free.
    Magic Server Partition Manager Software - Resize partition for Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2000.

    Here is one of their tutorials which is what you are looking for.

    I would also make a backup image before doing it. I use
    Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
    for my imaging.

    Of course, you will need to move some stuff out of C: to D: before you do anything else.

    A good candidate for moving out is often

    C:\User\Downloads

    Also, run a diskcleanup and defragment before you do anything else;

    Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Cleanup

    He might realize that moving the UserData to another drive frees up so much room that he doesn't need to extend the partition anymore.

    That may be true but that opens a whole different problem as what can be moved. Could cause more problems then it is worth.

    Just curious, why doesn't anyone use Disk Management to resize partitions. I used it recently and it worked fine. Maybe I was just lucky...........

    If he cleans up on C: he might not need to do anything else! :)

    Resizing partitions is always a risk.

Hi, i just uninstalled Ubuntu and GNU/GRUB and now i cannot resize the main partition with win7. i tried diskmgmt.msc and gparted. Any ideas what happend?

Can't resize my partition

I'm trying to resize my C: partition so that I can create a separate 160 GB partition, but all of the options on MiniTool Partition Wizard are greyed out. And Disk manager is reporting 40 GB of possible space to shrink even though there's 259 GB free. I've reinstalled Wizard, defragged, and nothing...
