COM Surrogate Windows 7 64bit

I have exactly the same problem. None of the proposed solutions worked. Did you manage to fix this azulblueaoi ?

This shouldn't be occurring with a fresh install of Windows. Rather than trying to find workarounds, we need to address the root issue of why it's happening in the first place from a clean install. Are you sure this is a legitimate and genuine Windows OS disc that you're installing from? Where did you get it from?

As you can see I tried the clean boot and the problem still persisted with everything disabled.

And yes I have a genuine Windows version purchased from Newegg.

If this is happening on a clean install, their are corrupted system files on the disc itself and/or it's not a genuine disc (which is unfortunately more often the case when people try to get such things from TPB or other sites of the like).

Either way, I would download a fresh copy of your specific OS from here:

I know this is from the internet, but these are actually provided by Digital River, Microsoft's partner in digital distribution of the OS. So, these are legitimate, genuine ISO's. Download the appropriate version, burn to disc, and reinstall to see if that fixes it (which it should). If it does not, I have no clue what else to try, unless the issue is with the pictures/videos in question that are generating the COM surrogate errors, which I suppose could also be possible.

Hmm; I would be surprised if that wasn't a genuine CD. Newegg seems like a very serious store and not in need to distribute faulty versions. Of course there could always be errors on the disk. Before I try reinstalling everything (which will be a pain because I have some programs that I have to get the university to install on the PC etc) I will try to follow writhziden advice. I'll keep you posted Also; I tried it on different photos (and those work on my home computer) and the problem was the same.

I wasn't saying Newegg distributes non-genuine CD's. That was in reference to CD's acquired through less reputable means.

Right, writhziden's advice is correct for scanning for and fixing corrupted system files, for which that command works. That was my first thought and instinct to suggest, however it doesn't address why you have those corrupted files in the first place after a clean install and no installation of other software.

Thanks for your help both of you!!! The repair installation done with the downloaded ISO. I had only the C drive plugged in (my SSD). Same COM error as before (still no other drive than C plugged in). I also just downloaded three random pics from the internet and looked at them. After some rapid flicking between images the same error (so it shouldn't be the problem of my image files). Let me guess: That means complete windows reinstall and if the problem is still there then its a hardware problem? If it is a hardware problem then I probably need to get a specialist to look at my computer right? Or is there any way to diagnose whether the Motherboard runs ok etc? I had just one thought. I haven't got a graphics card yet. I use the intel i7 Sandy Bridge chip inbuilt graphics together with the the Z68 chipset of my motherboard. Is it possible that these graphics are too slow/have a problem so that they give up with Photo viewer sometimes? I meant to buy a graphics card but not as long as I did't need to. Hmm I don't know though because it plays videos alright, google earth works fine and I also installed Picasa3 and flicking between images works ok...

You know what? I just produced the same exact error on my (totally unrelated) home computer!!! Flicking through pics on windows photo viewer for a while and voilà!! My home computer is an Acer laptop; with no hardware tempering from my side. What I did is turn off some windows features (games etc).

The only contact between the two PCs are occasional external harddisk transfers. So maybe it could be some kind of malware?? Or there is some problem with Windows Photo Viewer... but then why would I be the only one that has that error. I don't understand.... That probably means I just have to download a different photo viewer. It is sad to have put in so much time and not resolve the issue but I guess that is the best solution...

And now line break worked (home PC)? weird (I think I am slowly getting crazy)
