What's happened here?

I don't know what's happened, but for the last couple of days or so right clicking Computer from the right-hand side of the start menu and choosing Manage isn't working correctly. After providing administrative credentials, I get the following message:

It's no big deal, because there is an alternative way to get there which is via the Administrative tools link. I wonder if it is something to do with my messing around with blank icons and removing the shortcut arrows here?

Yep, deleting the IsShortcut string value in the registry to remove the shortcut arrow is usually cause of this. This should get it fixed up.

Thanks, Shawn. I'm not too bothered about it, since there is an alternative way around things. I'm probably due for a clean reinstall of my complete system, just as soon as IE9 and SP1 come out of their Beta phases and into RTM.

Incidentally, if you read my other posts there you will see that I did try the other method of removing the shortcut first, only to find that it didn't work correctly on rebooting.

You're welcome, but the REG file will fix it for you in few secs if you wanted to.

Afterwards, the program in this tut will let you remove the shortcut without any issue.
