My 7100 - slow as molasses?!?!?

Got 7100 loaded on the desktop - runs tight and fast, I like it a lot.

Put it on my Dell The laptop - ugh. Takes 2 minutes and 23 seconds from when I turn it on to when it's ready to go. Desktop takes a fraction of that, it's not even close.

My desktop and laptop are roughly the same in specs, except (and I know this is a big exception) the laptop uses a Centrino Duo, desktop has AMD 64 AthlonX2. Otherwise - same memory (3GB), laptop has a faster hard drive but a smaller size. Video card in the laptop is slightly better. Both machines are a couple years old.

Both machines used to run XP, and both loaded XP about the same. 7 loads a lot faster on the desktop, but way slower than XP on my laptop.

Is the CPU the major factor here?

Maybe a driver issue? 7100 is way faster than 7000 on my current desktop. Even the Windows score moved from a 2.9 to 5.3.

Hi,Colonel Travis, you are going to have to show your specs ,for both of your PCs ,so that people can see the difference between them ,and try and solve the problem that you are having,and I am sure that once you do that ,you will be a lot happier.

Indeed, jfar. Realized that after I posted, my bad. Basic specs below, can post more. For the heck of it, WEI for the laptop is 2.2. The desktop is actually lower - 2.0. But the desktop processor score is 4.9, compared to 2.2 for the laptop. Desktop low score is because of the graphics section.

Also:

1.) BIOS startup screen comparison:
Desktop - BIOS screen is on for 12 seconds.
Laptop - almost two minutes.
Once Windows starts loading, the time difference between them to the end is minuscule.

2.) After startup is done, the laptop takes about six minutes (I've timed it) to connect to my wireless router. It used to be pretty close to instantaneous with the early 7 builds and XP. Started lagging like this with 7057 or maybe 7068. Didn't get fixed with 7077 or 7100. I've tried connecting manually but it won't let me. Never recognizes the router encryption key. Disable/enable network connection doesn't work. Can't find anything unusual when I log into the router.

Otherwise, no complaints about 7. I've got Photoshop CS4 on both machines and it runs better on the laptop than the desktop. All drivers appear to be updated. Desktop is nothing but all-around goodness.

Iam curiously awaiting a solution for your problem, because iam experiencing the same with my MSI laptop :/ The 5 year old desktop i have can boot faster then the one year old lappy with a dual core cpu :O

Whats the HOST OS on your laptop -- If you have W7 on a Virtual Partition (as a VM) ALL sorts of considerations neede to be considered here -- Virtual Machine configuration, Virtual machine BIOS, and loads of other constraints.

Are you talking about booting up the MAIN laptop or the Virtual Windows OS.

Hi there
can't help you on that type of install.

Normally W7 either as a Host or a guest should run fine. Even running a 64 bit version of W7 on Windows XP -- can be done so long as the VT virtualisation in the CPU is turned on either by default or in the BIOS.

I 've run W7 systems as Virtual Machines using programs like VMWARE. I don't know about your type of install.

Have you checked the Event Viewer for any obvious/serious problems? Your boot time is extraordinary...almost like a missing driver or connection that can't be made.
