About boot screen and something else.

Hello all, my first post here, I hope to post here a bit since I'm using the Windows 7 - 7000 build too.

Well, I have some questions... first, regarding the boot screen when I turn on the computer. I've installed Windows XP SP2 this way: Deleted all the partitions on my hard drive, then did two partitions from the installation program of the CD, then I installed Windows XP in one of the partitions, then I installed Windows 7 in the other partition.

So, I have two SO's running, but, when I turn on the PC only stars with Windows 7. There is no OS selection screen at the very beggining. What could be the problem?

Second, and regarding with graphics. I'm running Win 7 in a HP 530 Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM and this: "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, up to 224-MB shared system memory". When I turn on the slideshow as a Desktop Background, sometimes I see weird lines and the transition is not as smooth. Also, I've installed Warcraft III Frozen Throne and when I play, I see some dark flashes and lines.

This happens because of the "beta" not handling well the GMA 950?? I'm using the drivers that came on with the Windows 7, however, I think I've updated them via Windows Update since it seems that HP and Intel are friends with Bill Gates.

That's all, sorry the long post, Thanksss!!!

    1) You need to have the OS *ask* you to pick an OS to boot into - also, you might need to use Download EasyBCD 1.7.2 - NeoSmart Technologies to edit your BCDboot.ini file to add XP as an alternate OS....

    2) Driver issues - this *is* a Beta OS after all...

Thanks for the quick reply =)

Yeah, I supposed that the graphic problem was due to the beta release, I have no problem with that, I'll just play until I start to feel epileptic... xD ha, just kidding, I don't care. What I do care is the boot screen. I'll try with the program you mention, but anyway, I think it's interesting to mention that in a older installation of the same Win 7, I did got the boot screen to choose from, it died when I decided to Insert my XP CD and delete all partitions to make 2 new ones (did this because I wanted to give more space to one of the partitions)

    I'll try. Thanks!

Hello juanpablo1313, welcome to Se7en Forums!

Have a look at this, I've used it myself. It has directions on how to use EasyBCD to edit the boot menu; it'll work for XP and Windows 7 also.

Thanks a lot, I'll check that before doing something.

But that will be later, right now I'm solving a huge problem. I don't know why, but today Win 7 frozen, the desktop becabe white and the explroer stopped working. I wasn't able to get to the Turn Off screen, and Ctrl+Alt+Supr didn't work either.

It just... died. I think it's third or second times it happens to me, however, this time I wasn't doing what I supposed I did wrong the last times: installed Magic Disk and mounted a Warcraft III .iso. Past times, after I did that the Windows died. But this time I didn't, it just got a random freeze. After I rebooted the PC (by holding soem time the power button) I got a screen of a disk read error and ctrl+alt+supr to restart.

I couldn't start again. So I've inserted my Win 7 disk and isntalled all over again, but installation was damn slow.

Maybe it's an issue with my hard disk, but I have no way to know that.

Now it's working fine. But I'm afraid that dies again with no reason.

Sorry the offtopic, but I'm very dissappointed right now.

When I do the boot screen trick, I'll let you guys know, becaause the screen didn't appear this time either, haha.

    Thanks!

    Hello juanpablo1313

Here is an option to try if it does it again; until you figure out what's causing it. Who is the manufacturer of the HDD?

    Method two in this tutorial.

Hey Ted, that CD option to recover looks very nice, I'll try it, since I've tryied the Easy BCD and seems that it only recognizes one system (Win 7) and don't let me add the XP one (it doesn't display the hard drive partition properly), also, the repair tools included didn't help.

and, wow, I can't fin the manufacturer of the Hard Drive... It seems like it's an HP (not?) well... google didn't help either... it jsut keep refering to "the hard drive"... no manufacturer.

Here are the specs, I really can't find what's going on with my system boot.

120-GB 5400 rpm SATA Drive Weight 0.22 lb (101 g) Capacity 120 GB Height 0.37 in (9.5 mm) Width 2.75 in (70 mm) Interface ATA-7 / SATA 1.0a Transfer Rate Synchronous (maximum) 100 MB/s (Drive Capability) Seek Time
