So if my Sound Card is built into it, how do I go about restoring it? What do I need to download? I looked for 'updates' 'sound card' 'drivers' under Wistron 30D6 with no luck. Anybody have a clue on how I can get my sound card working again?
    Hello?

    Is anybody there?

I will try a third time:

Now that you know the correct model number, you might try installing the Win7 or Vista sound driver from the HP website here: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-002&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=1817066&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&cc=us

Um dude I said I couldn't install any drivers because there is nothing to install a driver TO. And yes I have tried it many times. Drivers from HP, Realtek, you name it. But if the PC does not detect any Sound Card, then you'll just get the message saying that Windows didn't find anything to install the driver TO.

In other news....I HAVE SOUND AGAIN!!!
Here's the solution: Do NOTHING and really REALLY want it to fix itself.
I literally just restarted the PC and it loaded again, I had sound out of nowhere!!
I wish there was an actual solution though, why is this so random??
Anyways I took the chance to go to Device manager, and I now had the option of "Sound Video and Game Controller" So I updated to the latest driver while I had the chance. Hopefully this will no longer happen.
Feel free guys to keep trying to post ideas for a possible solution. Thanks!!!

    Make a backup NOW!

You should make a backup image right now and store it away for future use.

Say I do manage to restore the volume, how would I make this "Backup" Image?
Thanks, hope I solve this quickly.

Control Panel - Backup and Restore - Create a System Image

or, lots of people here use Macrium Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

But if the sound problem is a faulty card or similar then the image might not work either!

It's not random, it's hardware components failing due to the heat issues, and it is going to continue to happen off and on again. Random components will start shutting off then coming back on again out of nowhere. Wireless died on my HP dv2000 for about 2 days then came back and has been working since. Video card randomly died on another HP pavilion laptop out of nowhere and that thing was barely used. Welcome to the lovely world of the pavilion series.

Is the listing still in the Device Manager?

If so, what does it say on its General tab?

Sometimes, there is nothing you can do, but replace bad component ... fortunately, sound cards are dirt cheap these days..
