Open lid and Windows doesn't wake?

    Hi,

I saw one of the features of Windows 7 was the instant on after the screen on a laptop is closed. However, on my Samsung Q330 - If I open the screen I have to press the power button to get the computer to wake. How can I change this so when the screen is opened the computer wakes up?

    Thank you.

Some laptops do not have that ability...sadly. Its a hardware and or a hardware driver issue.

I have a Samsung netbook N220 - if I press the function key for sleep mode (blue fn key+the esc key which has a 'moon' slice) when I open the lid and press the power button, it loads 'instantly'.

Would that be close to what you mean?

As logicearth said, it's usually a design issue with the laptop/netbook manufacturer as to what happens when the lid is opened. You might want to look at this tutorial for some additional information about sleep mode, hiberation, and power settings:

    Hi,

Thank you for all your replies.

What I mean is when I close the screen, the laptop goes into standby. But when I open the screen to get the computer back on, I have to press the power button. What I'd like is the computer to wake when the screen is opened. But if that's something to do with Samsung then I geuss I have no luck!

i know this is an old thread, but my experience is that it is NOT a hardware issue, but has something to do with the manufacturer's OEM version of Windows. I recently replaced the c-drive on my HP Pavillion DV6 Notebook, but could not locate the original recovery disc (my bad), so the tech installed an OEM he had on hand from Dell. Prior to that, the unit would wake up instantly when i raised the lid. Since then i've had to press the power button and go make coffee before it wakes up. I mean literally, it takes forever! I've checked all the adjustments to the lid and power buttons, but can't find a workaround.

taught me a good lesson about keeping my recovery options organized!

i just wanted to let you all know that, since the consensus seems to be that it is the machine itself.

    i beg to differ!
