Lost my search function, can anyone help?

    Hello everybody,
Let me take a moment to say that this forum is an incredible source of information. I completely skipped over Vista after using XP since it came out and whoa! the change has been very nice! Loving every bit of 7.

I am running build 7201, 32 bit. I am having a big problem though, for some reason my search function is missing from the start menu. I think it was my fault, I somehow removed it when I was making an attempt to tweak 7 being a complete noob!! I tried looking for the "Windows search" function in the services.msc panel, but no luck. Is there any way I can re-enable search without reinstalling.

Thank you in advance for your patience and help!

Hello MrDoNotBreak, and welcome to Seven Forums.

By defualt, search is only handled through the search line in the Start Menu. However, you can use this tutorial to add it to dark right side of the Start Menu.

You can also press the Windows Key + F to open the search window.

If you do not have the Windows Search service, then double check in Windows Features to make sure that Windows Search is checked.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

OK thanks for the suggestions so far. I found out a couple of things. The windows search box is checked in the Features menu. However, when I push windows + f, an error message appears. It says

    Search:
    Class not registered

As a test, go ahead and uncheck it to uninstall it and click on OK. Afterwards, check it again to reinstall it to see if that may reset it to work properly again.

If not, then you might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix it.
