See if this may be able to work for you. I've found that deleting them while in these small "Open" or "Save As" type dialog windows sometimes will allow you to delete them when you cannot normally.
  • Open a program like Notepad.
  • In Notepad, click on File (Menu bar) and Open.
  • While in the Open dialog window, select Desktop under Favorites.
  • Right click on this ghost file and click on Delete.
  • Close the Open dialog window and Notepad.
  • Empty the Recycle Bin if it worked.
