    Hello Graemzy,

You can use the tutorial below and the links at the top of this tutorial to help compare the features between the two to see if it may be worth the additional costs to you or not. It just really depends on if you need these extra features or not versus the cost.

    Compare Windows 7 Editions

    Hope this helps some,

Well, I doubt there are many benefits here for you. Home was made for the home user, pro for business, and ultimate for the guys who want it all. However, I would wager to say vista ultimate provided more than win7's ultimate, as it had a few games and a background movie player, among other things free to offer.

While win7ultimate has added security through bitlocker, if you don't use it (or don't know how), than I would stick to home. Especially due to the higher prices.

Pro (and ultimate) has one huge benifit, and that is virtualized xp mode. However, it doesn't do well with graphic intensive programs (games), but it is great for those programs that seem to ONLY work on XP. But if you don't have any such programs, you really don't need pro

Now there are other things that are offered in upgrading, but most of which you may never use or need. You would have to follow Brink's link and check it out yourself

+1 and you can't store a backup disk image on a network location using home edition which isn't a big deal really. I bought home edition knowing that I wouldn't need any of the added features. It's geared for businesses.

Uh...I'm not aware of any aero features on Pro or Ultimate which are not on home premium. Which aero features are you talking about?

Another Pro/Ultimate feature that doesn't come with HP: Remote Desktop Hosting.

I just checked again and I was mistaken. Now I'm sad I got pro all over again lol (Just because I don't need it, but I guess it was only 30$ more).

What I find significant is the End of support life cycle.

    Starter 2015.01.13
    Home Basic 2015.01.13
    Home Premium 2015.01.13
    Professional 2020.01.13
Ultimate 2015.01.13 <--- this one seems very strange to me
    Enterprise 2020.01.14

my guess would be it is so because professional and enterprise versions are designed for organisations/companys/enterprises that use VL. thus longer extended suport, ultimate is designed for home enthusiasts (small companys, that can not get enerprise but want same functions too), so same as home versions.
