Square Box in Read Only

Can't you remove that square mark? As far as i know, square means partial i.e. its partially read-only. Sooner or later, you'll be advised to do a scan with Malwarebytes , so please download, update and run full scan with it. Just to be sure we're not dealing with any virus which would require different tactics. Also, In the meantime, have you tried Tools>Folder options>View tab>Reset folder options? (Not sure about the tab as whether the option is under this tab or any other)

Folders always display a square in the checkbox, it means "Intermediate" or "Unknown" value. If you read what it says in the Properties dialog. "Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)" Folders have no concept of read-only that checkbox only serves to set all the files under that folder. Thus will always display the same value regardless.

As LogicEarth said, folders will always display the square box. It indicates an "intermediary" value that shows the unknown read-only status of the files contained within the folder. If you try to change the read-only setting for a folder, then a message will popup asking you if you want to apply the change to only the file contained within the folder, or the file contained also within any sub-folders.

Folders don't have a read-only attribute...

When you clear the check box, and click Apply, are you in the dialog that opens selecting "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" and then clicking OK?

But regardless. The next time you open the properties dialog for the folder, the "blue box" (as you call it) will be back. This does not indicate that the read-only status of the file within did no take. This is 100% normal behaviour.

Then it asks me for Admin Priv. so I allowed it, while it processes, an error pops-up and I'll have to pick from "Ignore, Ignore All, Try Again, Abort" so I press Ignore All :))

Question: What files/folders are you trying to change the Read-only attribute that it asks for admin rights?

And if you click "Ignore All", the it does just that: It ignores the command you've just issued, which is why the read-only change isn't holding...
