HD is the actual hard drive (disk) your Win7 is installed upon.
There is also a Recovery Partition on the HD which is a more stable way to run Recovery than the disk/flash stick. You only need the flash stick Recovery method if the HD dies or the Recovery Partition fails to run at boot using the procedure shown here in the second section: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7C02140000R01.htm
There is a risk your Recovery Stick might not work correctly and you would be stuck with no way to recover your HD without a working Recovery partition (which is on the HD now) or a Win7 installation DVD to clean reinstall.
So I would keep asking questions until you fully understand the risks and how to prepare fully for them. You have been given suggestions to swap in another HD for the test with your stick, or to save externally a Win7 backup image of your HD which could be reimaged using the Win7 Repair CD (which can also be written to a smaller flash stick).
