Have to Left Click twice in order to do anything.

My laptop has a gremlin. I have to left click twice in order for any normal left click function to work. It's like the first click doesn't register at all. Not a double click, but two separate clicks are needed. Frustrating..
Sony vaio, 64 bit, windows 7
Any advice gratefully accepted.

Go to Hardware and Sound and there should be properties for adjusting the sensitivity and settings of the Mouse and touchpad.

Your touchpad manufacturer should provide preferences or options for its users. Have you checked those? For example, the Synaptics touchpad/mouse has a list of approximately 50 different options that customize the use of the touchpad and mouse.

Thanks for the advice. The mouse was already set up as fast as possible and when I came to update the drivers the button was not highlighted (it was "greyed" out) so I couldn't proceed. See the screen shot. What does that mean?

Np wonder it doesn't work ...go back to Device Manager ..
Right click on mouse and uninstall it ...YOU MUST REBOOT IMMEDIATELY ..
so WDs can pick the good drive and install for you ...

Model # PCG 7184L, however.... this is no longer THE major problem. I picked up a bug disguised as a necessary plug in to display a web page and the system shut down immediately. I mean immediately. And will not reboot. In safe mode was able to start system restore, went to last Windows update and attempted SR. When I try to fire the unit up I get a screen saying, that Windows was not able to shut down successfully. I then start in Safe mode again, and am informed that system restore was completed successfully, but then a blue screen emerges informing me that "Driver IRQL NOT LESS THAN EQUAL", and to see a system admin or techie. Waaaahhhh!!!
I pulled the plug and battery to shut it down.
Holy heck. Perhaps start a new thread?
Again thanks,
