How can I run CMD as Administrator under Windows 7 64bit Home Premium?

    Hi:

I am new both here and Windows 7. Having a problem to run
    Regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx under CMD prompt.

An application was installed to a computer with Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. But it could not run correctly telling me that it is comdlg32.ocx error.

    Under C:\Windows\System32 after select CMD
    Enter

    Regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx

and an error message would be shown.

No problem to Windows7 Prof 64bit if I select run as Administrator to CMD there.

Any advice and suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Ke

Use the lower left Orb to 'Search'

Type in "CMD" (without the quotes).

When CMD.exe shows in the list, right click it and select Run as Administrator.

    Elevated Command Prompt

However, that CommonDialog OCX you are trying to register is a VB6 control and VB6 can be problematic with 64bit.

    Best of luck though :)

If you are intending to run VB6 apps then you might need to register quite a few more DLL's and OCX's and if so it might be quicker to put the whole regsvr32 list in a .BAT file and run that as Administrator.

As a help, these are the main components you may wish to consider:

    regsvr32 itircl.dll
    regsvr32 itss.dll
    regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
    regsvr32 msxml4.dll
    regsvr32 VBPrnDlg.dll (if used)
    regsvr32 Msflxgrd.ocx
    regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx
    regsvr32 SYSINFO.OCX
    regsvr32 MSSTDFMT.DLL
    regsvr32 MSHFLXGD.OCX
    regsvr32 MSCOMM32.OCX
    regsvr32 COMCT232.OCX
    regsvr32 COMCT332.OCX
    regsvr32 Msmask32.ocx
    regsvr32 MSCOMCT2.OCX
    regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx
    regsvr32 threed32.ocx
    regsvr32 dbgrid32.ocx
    regsvr32 DBLIST32.OCX
    regsvr32 comctl32.ocx
    regsvr32 RICHTX32.OCX
    regsvr32 TABCTL32.OCX
    regsvr32 msrd2x35.dll
    regsvr32 msjet35.dll

Have you tried running the program in Windows Vista or even Windows XP compatibility mode?

If that does not work, you can maybe try Windows XP Mode:

I run cmd in the administrator mode by creating a shortcut to cmd.exe and
    running the shortcut as administrator.
    works for me.

    Elevated Command Prompt Shortcut
