I need an online free source where I could read basic information about AD. I would like to get a fairly good understanding of it. Where could I get one site or a couple to get very good information?

If you really want to learn about AD, set up a few VMs in a domain and play around with account management and such. AD alone is a very simple part of bbeing an overall admin.

While AD can be simply to setup, depending upon your environment...it might take considerable effort and education to ensure that you get your sites setup properly for best performance. One thing that's hard to recover from is a bad active directory design right off the bat.

That's why I'd do it with a series of VMs. Rolling back or undoing changes is easy.
