Changing the X and Y keys

I usually use a qwertz (German) keyboard. But my new laptop came with a qwerty keyboard. 90% of my typing errors come from me using the x in lieu of the y. I am OK with the other keys because those are used infrequently.

I have seen a lot of fancy tutorials how one can change the whole keyboard layout or only the caps lock key - but I want to only switch the x and y. Does anybody know how to do that without pain?

Correction: Of course I meant Z and Y (and not X and Y) - sorry for the confusion.

have you tried Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4?

*edit* forget that - try sharpkeys instead - very lite and simple

You should be just able to change keyboard language in Region and language options in the Control panel. Before that you'll need to add an input language. Explained here.

Don't you mean Z and Y ?

There are several options. Firstly, switch your input language to match the keyboard. Secondly, remap the keys as described above. Thirdly, physically swap the keys around (may or may not be possible). Fourthly, relabel the keys, perhaps with Letraset or something similar (alternatively, stick blank labels onto them and write the correct letters on the labels).

LOL, you are of course right. It's Z and Y and not X and Y.

Problem is that I do not want to swap anything other than these 2 keys. I am still using it with English and I also do not want to change any of the other keys. If e.g. I would change it to qwertz all together, all the special characters, etc. would change too and I would get all lost. That you can only do if you have a real qwertz keyboard - which I have on my desktop.

But thank you everybody for the inputs. I will see whether the suggestions will allow me to do that.
