control panel -> system -> advanced settings -> click the settings box in the performance area.
Choose for best appearance, close it out and reboot.
If it was a simple settings issue that should solve it, if not get back to us.

dont suppose u can help me with another problem (maybe more complex) but lately about the same time as the privious problem loads of programs on my netbook have been not responding and having to close (usually windows or microsoft stuff, device manager etc and office 2010)

or should i make a new thread?

    oh it's a netbook huh?
well you could try the old sfc /scannow trick to make sure you don't have any core file corruption.
Outside of that I would suggest a new thread, different people here look for topics that are in their interest. So the title may have some affect on who you get to look at it.

You should probably make a new thread about the app hangs.
If you have crashed or had a bsod follow the instructions at the link in my sig and and attach the results to the new thread.
