I have lost the option to Drag and Drop to burner

Hi everybody, this is my first post on Seven forums so please be patient if you can
I am running Win 7 Professional.

When I grab a file and drag it to my optical drive (cd/dvd/ligtscribe) to be burned all I get is a red circle with a diagonal line through it .... same icon as the "no smoking sign we are all familiar with in the USA.

I do have two 3rd party DVD burning programs installed.
One is ImgBurn, and the other is DVDFab 8 which I bought.

I don't think these two programs had anything to do with it before, but somehow I've lost the ability to drag/drop files to be burned to the on board optical drive.
The Laptop is a HP DV6700 (dv6885SE) and I did try an external Burner....still get the red circle with the diagonal line through it.

Thanks to all in advance for any help
    D!

Thanks Anak, but that's not the problem I'm having.
I can drag and drop files anywhere but to the optical drive.
Thank you very much for your time :)

Does anybody have any other suggestions what the problem could be?
    Thanks
    D.

What version of DVDFab do you have? DVDFab did not start supporting that feature until the end of September of last year, and then only for certain (Supported) files

    DVDFab 8.0.2.0 (September 30, 2010)

    * New: Updated language files.
    * New: Added context menu icon "Open with DVDFab" when right clicking on supported files.
    * New: Added drag and drop support for supported files.
    * New: Added support for Windows 7 Taskbar to show copying or conversion progress.
    * New: Added "Pause/Resume" and "Cancel" buttons for Windows 7 Taskbar.
    * New: Added history support for Windows 7 Taskbar.
    * New: Reconstructed "Process" window, added "Info", "Preview" and "Option" tabs.
    * New: Added "Preview" to check the output image when copying or converting.
    * New: Open output folder when copying or conversion finished.
    * New: Updated Commandline.txt to add new parameters.
    * New: Minor changes and improvements.
From Fengtao DVDFab 8.0.2.2 is out (October 1, 2010) - DVDFab Forum

Did you make sure you restarted the computer after installation?
Any recent Windows updates? Drag and Drop will not work until computer is restarted.

You do not list your System Specs. Do you have an AMD/ATI video card in your machine, and is it updated?
Now after installing the latest ATI 10.4 drivers it takes 2hrs!
I had a look at the changelog and I think it may have something to do with the following:

    AMD video transcoding updates
This release of ATI Catalyst™ provides enhanced support for the Windows 7 Drag
    and Drop video converter

I have ver 8.0.7.3. I just got it about a month ago or so.
I'm getting a bit confused here,
Doesn't Win 7 Pro have a simple built in drag and drop burner option for files like XP does? I cant even drag a text doc or picture to the burner. All I get is the red circle with the line through it.

I don't remember if I had tried the drag and drop function to burn files on Win 7 before installing DvdFab as Ive only had Win 7 for a few of months.

Perhaps I disabled a service that I shouldn't have at one point.
Sorry but that's all the info I have.

I'd really like to get this resolved,
    Thanks again for the reply.

If you right click on the file, do you have a 'send to' option?

Yes I do but send to D: (optical drive) was not an option so I did some reading, added the burner to the "send to" options but I still get the red circle which still wont allow the function.

    Thanks for the reply Jacee.

Often the installing of a third party burner will over ride the Send To facility, I know Nero does and it may be the case with one of yours, most probably the DVD fab 8. Would it be possible to uninstall the two 3rd party programs and see if the Send to comes back. You would need to reboot the laptop. What sort of files do you normally burn to DVD's or CD's? Have you any programs installed that have a burner facility in them like Video Editors?

Check if drag and drop was disabled somehow ....
Right click on the start button
    Select properties
    Highlight the start menu tab
    Click customize
    Highlight the advanced tab
    Scroll down
Enable dragging and dropping <--- make sure there is a check in the box.

It's there Jaycee.... I can drag and drop all day, just not to the optical.
I guess I'll live with it.

I'm starting to think that mitchell65 is correct.
Thanks very much for your help.
