Sony Vaio w7 64 bit - very very slow performance

Hello,

i never had this kind of a problem in my life where i used almost over 10 Pc/laptop ... One day when all my laptops performance was very fast and such, windows failed to start...and 15 16 times in row it failed...My laptop is Sony Vaio VPCF11Z1E btw - i7 8Gb ram bla bla bla basically it has almost top performance hardware

i said ok and removed my personal data with the help of recovery center and using recovery discs i reinstalled w7 (which is home premium btw). Anyway for 2 days it was ok STİLL SLOW but at least managable...but now it takes minimum 5 minutes to startup.. another 4 minutes to load taskbar , desktop stuff...my antivirus (avira antivirus) keeps shutting down and start up again.. double clicking a file is like 3 minutes to open. and when i try to browse the web (doesnt matter if its chrome opera firefox happens to all) it just not responding ASAP. i mean its brandly new installed windows and its like a billion times slower perfomance...i dont understand why...i saw people posting messages on forums with same kind of problem and i tried basically EVERYTHİNG i saw as a suggestion..my startup is not full at all ...i turned off the ones that i dont need on startup. i mean nothing can cause any problems..

checked everything on task schedule and all that ...even now i've been writing this post over 34 minutes (keeps giving "not responding" for 3 mins and giving me 45 seconds to 1 minute to type).

basically its this.
- pressing power button to turn on
- windows logo....now this takes minumum 4 5 minutes
- Welcome screen ....3 - 4 minutes minimum
- desktop bacground screen ..4 to 6 minutes

i mean what the hell i had that process under 2 minutes not 2 3 weeks ago and i just cant get this thing figured.

After installing, updating and running Malwarebytes full scan, work through these steps:

Study the Event Viewer>Custom>Admin view for repeat errors to google text and ID# for resolution. Check also the Performance log on Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking your WEI score link at Computer>Properties. Check for cued issues at top of Tools page, Generate A System Health Report.

Type "Solutions" in Start Search box to see if any have been sent for Problems reported or not. Always report problems when asked as Windows 7 is interactive this way.

Test your hardware by running memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes or overnight: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ then test the HD using maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp..

Check temps for overheating by installing SpeedFan, blow dust out of the case using canned air, check all connections carefully avoiding static discharge to components by touching case first, reseat RAM.

Try a Clean Boot Procedure to learn what programs are running unseen which can be causing problems. Turn off all Startup items except AV and gadgets: Startup Programs - Change

Some of these steps suggested for cleaning up or clean reinstalling a factory bloatware install might help.

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to repair any damaged or corrupt OS files.

As a last resort before running Factory Recovery partition/disks or clean reinstall try a Repair Install which can fix most problems as it reinstalls the OS while keeping all programs, files and settings in place.

Tips for a clean reinstall, which is actually better than getting a new computer with today's bloated factory pre-installs.

i scanned with malwarebytes twice to be sure and nothing showed up (i formatted the system with recovery discs so its brand new , didnt expect to find anything with that but took my chance)

since you mentioned hardware i looked closely to my HDD light on laptop...even the system is idle i do nothing and just look at it...the HDD light is constantly flashing...just small blinks but other than that theres constant orange light telling me "shut up im working" ...

that seems to be the deal i guess cuz i tried numerous spywares and scanned the system no malware nothing is found (i formatted with recovery discs before i posted this problem so its a brand new windows 7 right now) and i have only 2 programs installed which are

- Your Uninstaller
- Photoshop CS5

i did some work through them (and removed the VAIO stuff that i didnt want)

but in any situation the common observation i made is : HDD light is constantly flashin and when i do nothing theres this sound repeating itself..which is like (dont laugh) "brrrrrrrrrr bab"..."brrrrrrrr bab"...this keeps repeating before it does really load or do anything..

so i guess its hardware related..perhaps RAM i tought at first but this HDD light never stops flashing (its not even blinking now and that sound machine makes ) makes me think that i should have a chat with Sony about this hard disk wont you agree?

well i ran the diagnostics and tests you suggested...

RAM test - i saw pass 7 ..will do it again tonight to be sure

Speed Fan - i already had that program in my pocket . No problems there . Besides i have a Zalman cooler (ZM-NC2000 model to be exact) so overheating is almost impossible

Startup stuff and all that i arranged them all before i went through them again and again no changes.

however when i try to diagnose HD it doesnt see the drive...i couldnt properly tested that, and yet the HD light is a constant lamp at the moment like it was before.

Also i had Antivir crashes on startup + a DLL error in windows system file at the beginning in my last 2 boots ..

So my conclusion is its the HD ..with the flashing light / the funny sound inside. that is causing the slowness %90 in my opinion now and i will have Sony techs to deal with it tomorrow as i deliver the laptop to them.

As a final question, its kinda rookie question tough . Is it better i purchase and use Windows 7 Pro rather than my pre-purchased and installed VAIO windows 7 home premium because i dont want games or stuff like that + dozens of extra VAIO stuff in my system (if i want i can get VAIO updater and such form sony support page anyway)

i mean is it a risk anyway to use a w7 other than my preinstalled one which came with the laptop itself?

Try installing this program to Windows to read the HD's SMART status: CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

What is your HD make and which test did you burn to CD to try to test it? If you can't look at make on HD, google the ID string in Device Manager for your HD.

Then run Disk Check

You do not need to buy another copy of Win7 since you own the Home Premium which was installed at the factory for the life of the machine. You can clean reinstall with any Win7 installer for your version, or even unlock all version in any other Win7 retail installer, to clean reinstall using the Product key on the COA sticker.

Hello again everyone,

i sent my laptop to Sony and got it back yesterday. They replaced the HD with a brand new one. All works fine now. after pressing power button within 25-30 seconds im on my email page while loading videos on youtube. Lifes good again now
