    Favorites using a keyboard?

    Hello,

I am trying to find a way to access my favorites with my keyboard.

In XP, Alt A accessed the favorites menu.

The closest I could find is View>Go To>Favorites, but even then 'F' for Favorites does not work after the first go. And it only shows the most recently visited.

I also tried adding keyboard shortcuts to the folders in the Properties of the folder, but it does not seem to do anything when I press the keyboard shortcut?? ie Ctrl Alt A

I was wondering if there was a way to access my favorites with a keyboard?

It used to be so much faster using the keyboard to access favorites in XP. I really dont know why they chose to get rid of it in Vista/Windows 7.

You used to be able to operate Windows with just a keyboard. Those days are sadly gone

    Cheers,

Hi lee griggs and welcome to SF

You're talking about Internet explorer, right? (I'm using Chrome so I have to guess

Apparently those keyboard commands have changed:

    Favorites: CTRL-I
    Favorites in pinned mode: CTRL-Shift-I

Is that what you were looking for ?

    OK, gotcha
Use Option 2 from this tutorial

    Favorites Shortcut - Create

and assign a Key to the shortcut (like CTRL-ALT-A)
and you're almost back to XP times

    That is almost there.

The problem is it opens a new Windows Explorer each time I go to a favorite.

Whereas, I like to jump around from favorite to favorite copying and pasting files etc as I go.

Also when I press Start>F it jumps to 'Windows Fax and Scan' when it brings up the search.
Is there a way to turn off the search in the Start Menu btw. I have tried Classic Shell but that has no favorites either.

    Cheers,

I did that and it took me to here:

Do you have a direct link?

I tried that thanks SledgeDG. However, it opens up a new explorer window, whereas I need to jump between favorites quickly without opening up lots of explorer windows.

Sorry to be so finickity, but missing keyboard favorites is really slowing me down in Windows 7.

ok, the closest Ive got is to paste my favorites to my desktop, then Alt Up to my desktop in explorer and type the first letter of the folder and press enter. Jeez, what a pain in the ass...

You can place your Favorites on your Start menu by rightclicking in empty space>Properties>Customize

But easier to just pull down Favorites in IE8. I do it a hundred times a day and have never found anything shorter, with History also right there to dice five ways to get back anywhere quickly .
