    Shutting Down Dilema

Whenever i shut down my computer, my notepad always stalls it. Does anyone else have this problem so i dont have to click on "force shut down"?

    Hi Stang,

I would recommend to close Notepad before shutting down Windows 7 to avoid this.

If you have made any changes in the Notepad document without saving it before trying to shut down, then that could cause a hang up since it is trying to ask you the usual "Do you want to save" before closing Notepad.

    Hope this helps,

It does. I just keep it open and use it as a literal notepad to write down what i'm thinking then delete it when its done so i dont see a point of saving it since it changes every 5 minutes. If i close it, it will delete everything on there right?

    Hey stang

did you ever open notepad when trying to dhut down to see if something like an *.ini file is open. the other way is to launch task manager and see if notepad is open before you try to shut down or is launched by the shutdown.

    Hope this helps

    That would make a difference.

Could you post back a link for this notepad gadget? I'll test it to see if I get the same thing.

I tested Sticky Notes, and it doesn't seem to make any difference it how long it took for me to shut down with and without it running. Stang, you might look in Task Manager to see what else may be running that may be causing the hang up if you are referring to Sticky Notes.

In the mean time Stang, you might see if using this shut down shortcut will work better for you until you can find the culprit. It does a force shut down automatically.
