how can i check if windows 7 is running properly. i ve been noticing little errors here and there like one that comes to mind is a file association with guitarpro6 the program doesnt open its own file type ive gone to the associate a file type or protocol with a specific program in the control panel and there are none of the programs file extensions. also this might not be a os issue but a good amount of my programs are starting to use up all my cpu.
There is really no general procedure to checkout your system. You can run sfc /scannnow in elevated cmd to see whether you have corrupted system files. But that's about it. If a specific program like your guitar program has problems, you'll have to sort them out on a per case basis.
As far as running programs eating your CPU - disable everything except the AV program in the startups. WinPatrol is an easy tool for that - unless you want to use msconfig. Else, close programs when they are not needed.
i tried to run sfc from cmd but it said you must be an administrator runing a consol session in order to use sfc utility but i don't know how to run as an administrator?

In the case of Guitar Pro 6 have you tried right clicking the Guitar Pro file and select open with? Then navigate to
C:\Program Files\Guitar Pro 6 if 32bit Windows or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Guitar Pro 6 if 64bit Windows
Select GuitarPro.exe this will set the files to open with Guitar Pro. Otherwise if it just will not open them for example freezes or has other issues, I recently had to remove and re install my copy of Guitar Pro 6 to fix a similar issue.
