    HP 2600n

    Hello,

I am new to the Forum and would like to say hello to everyone.

I would be grateful for some advice. I am trying to configure an HP2600n colour laserjet printer to a workstation running Windows 7 Home Premium.

The OS recognises that the printer is attached via USB and prompts me to download the software from the HP site. After I have installed the driver, the printer is not recognised in 'Printers' but is listed in 'Unspecified'. It is not possible to print documents.

Has anyone else come across this problem and managed to resovle it?

    Many thanks,
    Mark

Does the printer show up under device manager?
If it does, highlight it, then right click and update the driver, point it to the .inf file.
Alternatively, locate the .inf file, highlight it, then right click and select install.
There might be some compatibility issue here. In that case, locate the .exe file in the printer driver package, right click on it, select Troubleshoot compatibilty and follow the wizard.

    Hello Bill,

    Thank you for your response.

I haven't tried all of the suggestions you offer. But I did try the troubleshoot wizard and entered a loop with downloading and installing the same zipped driver.

The printer does show in device manager as 'Unspecified' rather than in the 'Printers' category.

Since I do not work in the business environment, do you have permission to install printers?

Have you tried adding a printer from the Devices and Printers window?

    Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes I was logged in with administrator privileges. And yes I did try to add a printer from the Devices and Printer window. Perhaps HP has not released a Windows 7 driver for this printer?

HP has released a Plug and Play package for that printer at this site. This is for the 32 bit version. Maybe downloading and running it directly will help. Follow the instructions in case the unit should not be plugged in until the software is installed.

    Hello,

Thanks for that. There is a 64bit version available at: HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

    I'll try this.

    Many thanks,
