i get 'windows did not shut down properly' message, help...

i have a windows 7 home premium dell xps 15 laptop, and when i close the lid (when being on) and then come back like maybe after half an hour or an hour and open the lid i have to press the on button for 2 sec to start it up, then it says windows did not shut down properly. Why does this happen?

Most likely, when you close the lid, your computer is going to sleep. In the hour that passes, your battery goes totally dead and the sleep state is lost, resulting in the "not shut down properly" message. Change it so that when you close the lid, the computer shuts down or hibernates instead (in power settings).
