    Absolute Frustration New Install Win 7 Pro x64


    New PC - Win 7 Pro x64 - Clean install EACH TIME (x4 now)

    After about two hours after a new, clean install, Services begin shutting down... Greying out... I cannot turn them on... (Firewall, DHCP, Windows Service Center, etc)

    I cannot access my gateway modem (internet works though although through a dial-up configuration, wireless OK)...

    I have tried TWO different Windows installation discs (yes they're both legit)... No difference - the above happens each time...

    I have contacted vendors, researched until I am blue, tried EVERY suggestion I have found on the internet... registry edits, permission edits, command line instructions, programs and utilities...

    I have tested the HDD... as I said brand new and passes 100% each time... I have ran malware, virus, spyware tests Nothing found...

    I need some help.... can someone provide some guidance??? From my research this seems to be a VERY common problem, but NO ONE has an answer. It even seems that MS does not know.....

    I've never seen this behavior or read about it. Are you connected to a network at home? If so, try disconnecting from network and installing OS and just wait and see what happens.

    Are you using a retail disk for your install? Or other type disk? OEM, Slipstream etc.

    Check you build number by typing "winver" in the search box. What is it? I am throwing a complete guess because you say that every two hours services shutdown, To me it sounds like you still have some type of pre-release version of Windows 7.

    Like pparks1 said, I also have not seen this either, please let us know about further details

    Hi,

    The disk/s that you are installing to : have they had installations on them before? Did you do a full format prior to the new installations?

    Please fill out your system specs (give us as much information about all your computer hardware - make & model etc. - as possible).

    Hello JinkyJulie. Welcome to the Forum.

    I'm a hardware guy - I know just enough about software to get myself in trouble, so I'm not going to say I know what is going on with your computer, but your description sounds a lot like a similar problem I ran into before.

    It had something to do with the "Host Process", explained quite well here:
    Bright Hub

    It's the "Dependencies" to focus on. Various services are dependent on other services to run and if those other services can't run or are stopped then all dependant services will stop also.

    If you had a defective device, conflicting device, or buggy driver, any service using that device would stop. Since the services you've listed are somewhat network related my first suspect would be the Network Controller and/or driver, or any of the network devices connected to your computer. The fact that the same issue occurs each time you reinstall W7 just screams bad device.

    As others have said, give us as much info about your system as you can and we can try and help you track this thing down.

    OK... I will try to answer all the questions - I have updated my system info for those who asked AND I have since fixed (although not sure how... my dial-up issue.... DSL auto connects upon boot)

    Lord Bob - All that was installed each time was the OS, Avast antivirus (free home edition), and Firefox - I have since installed more

    PParks - I have tried that... thanks.... disconnected modem... new NIC card (and drivers)

    Ryan - New retail version of Win 7 - I have tried several versions (all legit) Desperate I tried a 32 bit version - same result

    Golden - new out of the box system (as mentioned a new NIC and the sound card but that was AFTER the issue occurred) Specs are up.... hope they help...

    Tveblen - I tend to agree that it is a hardware/service dependency conflict ... I am pretty handy around PCs but this has got me stumped...

    Thanks for all the replies... I will keep trying from here... if anyone has any ideas... I'll try anything... But for now....

    Try to replicate the error with out ANYTHING else installed, including Avast.
