Right click menu causes (not responding)

    Hi,

Probably as much as 30% of the time when I use the right click menu Windows 7 will hang and end up with (not responding) in the title bar. Before SP1 I would get 'Windows Explorer needs to restart' often although I haven't had that since SP1 I don't think.

My computer has heaps of memory and power.

Any ideas what causes this, it's pretty tilting?

    Thanks.

    Hello Logman,

You might see if using METHOD TWO at the link below may be able to help with this by temporarily disabling suspect context menu items with ShellExView.

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

I did a repair install and downloaded that program.

If the repair doesn't help I'll give it a go - thanks.

Things seem a lot better since repair install - I'll let it go for a week and see what happens.

The repair has re-surfaced an old problem.

As an example, let's say I right click an item on the bookmarks bar of my browser - the menu appears, but as soon as I move my mouse toward the menu it vanishes. I previously worked out that this was due to my activation settings and went after a cure. I eventually found a registry tweak whereby I could extend the time delay before a menu is destroyed. But I can't find the tweak! I found the menushowdelay tweak but that is to tweak a delay before it shows rather than before it is destroyed.

Do you know the name of the key I want?

Not sure with that one, but double check using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to make sure that your C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder has the default location set for it.
