Windows 7 Validation Country

Hi I purchased a computer in Thailand and of course my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine. Now I want to to purchase a validation key. If I use my UK credit card and address to do this, will this work with my Thai version of Windows 7?
Thanks in advance.

I think you should contact Microsoft and tell them what you want to do and let them step you through it. They will be happy to help you become legal - not just to make a legitimate sale, but because illegal software is often compromised with malicious code - that is, infected with malware. And infected Windows is not good for Microsoft or consumers.

To answer your question directly, if your UK credit card information is accepted by the computer, then not sure it matters what you are purchasing as long as it is a legal license. Surely there are Thai living in the UK that wish to use the Thai versions. I suspect there are French living in Thailand too, for example.

If you are wondering if the automated ordering process will cause problems if ordering with a UK credit card from a Thailand IP address, that I don't know. I don't see why it should. I would think if ordering on-line, you will prompted to select the version and language you want before you commit to the purchase. If you don't see a language option, then cancel before committing, and contact Microsoft directly and talk to a human being.

Also note that Windows 7 Ultimate supports 35 languages - but does cost more.

It might already be perfectly legal.

To maintain their differential pricing MS ensure copies sold (legally) in some areas will only activate in that region.

If that is the case, contact MS and they will activate for you.

Legality is not the issue. The problem as I see it is making sure he gets the right language of Windows.

Language is not the problem as I will purchase Elite. I want to make sure by purchasing in UK that it will activate my Thai copy - I think it will and will try tomorrow.

You are assuming that Thai copy is complete and not corrupt or compromised. I am not sure I would feel safe unless it could be verified, or overwritten with legitimate code.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the initial help. I did get a reply from. I did get a reply from Microsoft online support. "I am sorry to hear that you receive a notification about validating your Windows operating system and you wish to purchase the Windows 7 genuine advantage kit online. Since you have a UK credit card and address, you are eligible to purchase the genuine advantage kit online"
After trying to purchase online and having problems with credit card being rejected/expense of wire transfer and the addition of 21% Iish VAT I have decided to go up the road and by a legal copy.
Once again thanks
