Has this been confirmed? This would be great. The only OS my desktop has ever had on it is 7100... I was thinking I would have to buy the full priced disk.
I hope this gets confirmed before the big pre-release sale ends!
Here is something that YupYup said in another thread that leads us to believe that you will be able to upgrade from RC to the retail

You can do a RC to RTM upgrade microsoft has said that here and in the windows 7 upgrade test matrix doc.
EDIT- well the second link isn't working anymore, idk whats up with that. But the first link is still working

And here's what the first link says in relevant part:

"Here’s what you can do to bypass the check for pre-release upgrade IF YOU REALLY REALLY NEED TO:

    1. Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD.
    2. Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build).
    3. Browse to the sources directory.
    4. Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad.
    5. Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000 (pictured below).
    6. Save the file in place with the same name.
    7. Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed.

These same steps will be required as we transition from the RC milestone to the RTM milestone." (Emphasis added.)

To me, the text emphasized in bolded red indicates that this method is intended to and will work to enable those who wish to, to do upgrade installs, as we transition from using RC's to the RTM.

Indeed, this method just worked for me to upgrade from 7232 RC branch to 7264 which is in the RTM branch. But we will have to try when we get our hands on the real final RTM build to be 100% sure, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
