    Hi,

1st we need to establish a couple of things...

Did you purchase Windows 7? If so then I'm asuming that it's the original DVD that you've lost?

Do you still have the main box/manual for your copy of Windows 7? If so it'll still have the product code on it.
       Note
If your machine came pre-installed with Windows 7 there'll be a sticker on your machine with the product code on it and you won't have received a DVD with your machine. All restore is from a hidden partition.

As mentioned above, you can obtain a backup copy if you know someone that has the Windows DVD but you will need to make sure of the following...

The version of Windows 7 you obtain is the exact same as the 1 installed on your system. That way you'll legitimate key will work with that disc.

There is little difference in downloading windows from a web torrent (or from Microsoft's own download site) and making a copy than borrowing the disk from a friend and making a copy, or calling a computer support guy to reinstall your PC from his copy.

As long as the license you have purchased is legitimate, and matches the type of installation media (retail, OEM, Volume license, regional versioning etc.), and the edition of windows 7 you install is the same, there is no problem with activation and remaining genuine.

Software, BIOS and Product key hacks and cracks are where the piracy comes into the picture, and Microsoft is actively promoting it's own "antimalware" products like Microsoft Security Essentials and the Malicious Program Removal Tool in Windows Updates, in order to monitor and counter the loss of revenue. At the same time, Microsoft is watching MyDigitalLife and other sites, and if their "utilities" get too well known, then they will go the way of Winternals and Sysinternals, and be bought into the Redmond machine.

Microsoft has fairly clearly outlined where it is going in the OEM market - 64bit mainstream products to cut off XP diehards, basic, hobbled OS editions installed on OEM machines, with the potential to buy instant anytime upgrades, and virtualization of Microsoft Office - it's tempting to know the full product is waiting on the disk, while it allows you to use some of the Word and Excel features if you watch Microsoft advertisements all the time.

I would not be surprised if Windows 8 is completely virtual, running in a virtualized protected workspace, like the starter versions of Office available now. If the VHD gets screwed up, just unpack another copy, and it will find your applications, configuration settings and documents automatically, and be back to work in 10 minutes.

so, why not just get him an iso and let him burn it? i'll be happy to suggest some programs and even get him a link to an iso. it's not illegal for him to have software on a disc he doesn't own, it's illegal for him to use a cracker or keygen to not pay for the software. i could have ISOs and discs for apple OSX if i want in my backpack, its fine so long as i dont use something to crack the software.

I think it should read " it's not illegal for him to have software he owns, on a disc , it's illegal for him to use a cracker or keygen to not pay for the software ...." and my two cents on it.

Unfortunately, merely because the OP asked where he can download it, he was pounced upon and made to feel like a pirate without ascertaining the facts.

You should be able to download windows. If you have a valid key that should be enough shouldn't it. DVD also do scratch contrary to belief ! ! !

That's why I'm always surprised when the links are removed or deleted, at least to the official site I'm thinking of. I understand the mindset of the mods to protect this forum, but those links are given in many official public blogs. The media that is downloaded doesn't contain any license info and still needs to be paired with a legit license to work.

In keeping with the mods wishes, I'm not going to post links, but if the OP spends about 10 seconds with Google, they'll find them.

i posted legal iso links but they got deleted because the modertor thinks it's "piracy" when it's not as you have mentioned..
