    Only 2.9GB RAM usable ):

    Hi guys,

I have quite a new ASUS laptop, which came with 64bit windows 7 and I took off and installed my copy of Windows 7 32bit (I didn't see the point in having 64bit on a laptop).

When I first installed the OS and everything Windows said I had 3.25GB ram usable or something like that which is normal but for some reason I now only have 2.92 usable and I don't know why >.< (this may have happened when SP1 was installed)

    The specs are:
    Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU P6100 @ 2.00GHz
    4GB DDR3 Ram
    Intel HD Graphics
    Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset
    320GB 5400RPM HDD

Why would you remove the OS that allows you to use all of your system memory in favor of one that will use roughly 75-80% of it at most?

Most likely, what is happening is that your system can only address 3.25 GB at most, and then you'd lose some for the onboard video, which would account for the remaining "missing" memory.

If it was me, I'd get my drivers ready and go back to Windows 7 x64 so you can use all of your memory...memory you paid for.

I suppose I should go back to 64bit. Its just every time I use 64bit I come into trouble with it or something happens. Never mind, I shall probably reboot tonight then xD

Do you have any old, unique apps that don't run on Windows 7 x64? What kind of troubles did you have with it?

I bought an Acer laptop with the exact same specs yours has. It should have the capacity for 8GB of DDR3 Ram. I bought 8GB of Ram from Crucial online for only $116 & it is a decent performer.

I totally agree with Deacon Frost. Uninstalling Win7 64-bit was not a good idea!
