I have installed SP1,
I have tried to run a repair because I cannot run Backup!! but it says "your current version of windows is more recent than the version you are trying to upgrade to!!
Is this another mess by created by Microsoft ??
What do you mean "you have tried to run a repair"? Are you using the repair disc created by Windows before SP1 was installed? Then I think it's logical to expect that Windows Installer would detect the presence of SP1 and consider it a more recent Windows version.
What you can do, is to use one of the tutorials on this forum to slipstream the SP1 into the installation DVD and then use the repair install option.
Also, what exactly is your problem with the Backup?
If you have SP1 installed and your machine boots up ok, just make a new Repair Cd, which will include SP1 code, and use this if you need to perform a repair.

Startup Repair or Repair Install?
Likely if you're trying to Repair Backup that it's Repair Install you want, and you're trying to run an Installer without SP1.
Follow unifex's advice to Slipstream Windows 7 SP1 into a Installation DVD or ISO File then burn another DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed, write to Flash stick, or run the extracted ISO file from desktop.
But first, have you asked for help with Backup? What is the exact error or problem you're getting?

Backup,when I try to backup on hard drive I get "did not complete backup
error 0x80070005"
*sighs* Why is everyone so quick to blame Microsoft? Didn't that anti-Microsoft mindset die out a few years ago?
Anyway, glad you know what's going on now.
This could be a permissions issue. On Folder Properties Security tab, give full permission to active User who is signed in.
Next Temporarily turn off User Account Controls to try backup. Then try turning off your A/V to try backup.
Next try a Clean Boot Procedure to see if it allows the backup: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796
If this fails, try running SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker before doing the Repair Install.
