USMT migdocs.xml

Hi recently did a profile move from windows xp to windows 7 using USMT 4.0 the command line scanstate path /c /o /i:migapp.xml /i:migdocs.xml, it all worked well Im just after a little clarification over the .xml files

How does migdocs.xml work? I have a small understanding that it searches your root for any user files, but how does it know which are user files and which aren’t? Do the file extensions matter? Say I’ve got something in my c:\mystuff\something.someunknownextension, will it copy that over aswell?

Do the migdocs.xml and migapp.xml files need to be modified or the defaults will do that job?
