Connecting Laptop to TV Question

Hey. I'm new here. I just have a little question regarding how to connect my laptop to television.

Is there any way that I would be able to connect my laptop with my television so that I could watch shows and movies from the laptop on my television? Is it possible? If so, how do I do it?

I dont have any downloaded shows or movies, per se, but I do stream them online. Is this possible? Or do they need to be downloaded?

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium.

It is possible.
1 - depends on what kind of TV you have.
--- If your TV has an input that is [RGB IN],
--- (that port looks just like the port that you use, to add an external monitor to your laptop.)
--- All you have to do is connect your laptop to that port with the proper cable.
--- One that has an RGB connector on both ends. (the are usually blue colour)

2 - If you laptop has an HDMI output AND your TV has an HDMI input,
--- Then all you have to do is connect your laptop and your TV with a good quality HDMI cable.

I happen to have a TV (made by LG, PN M2762D) that DOES have an RGB input port.
So I do use that TV/Monitor as my external monitor.

You can use either the S-Video out , VGA out, or HDMI out (if it has it) connectors on your laptop to connect it to your tv. If you use the first two, you'll also need to use a male to male 3.5mm audio cable from the headphone/speaker port on your laptop to the audio input of your tv to get sound from it.

Connection types

Paying more for a HDMI cable will not provide a better picture, Amazon has 6.5 ft cables for $10 USD, even less if you choose.

Another thing to keep in mind -- which may seem like a very minor point, but can be important -- is the length of the cable you buy. Be sure it's long enough to COMFORTABLY reach from computer to TV with enough slack that you won't be knocking the TV over or pulling out the connection by accident while you're watching programs.
