new with win 7 sleep mode acting strange

    Hi there ,

I always used XP ,, and now in windows 7 I am having some issues .

While just being active on the computer the thing just falls into sleep mode.
This happened a few times now , and sometimes in the evening but now also during the day. I am not sure about the suspend mode settings in Windows 7 as they are set default.

I was wondering if it might be my PSU , but it's a quite good one , but could be causing it , not sure , my initial thoughts go to the software. I have revently reinstalled windows 7 thinking the problem would go away , I am afraid something weird happened again , while I lft the computer running today .

Please some insight would be appreciated

    thank you

    Ralph

Are you sure it is going to "sleep"? If it does go to sleep, a wiggle of the mouse or press of a key should wake it up again and you would be right where you were when it went to sleep. All your files should still be open and ready to use. Is that what is happening? Or does the system run through a full boot?

A failing PSU would not cause a computer to go to sleep. It might, however, cause it to shutdown, reboot, or hang.

it does go to sleep , but what i was experiencing is that while i was moving my mouse and conducting normal computer business the thing just slipped into sleep mode , then I had to wait and move my mouse and it came back to life.

Are you sure it is not just using a blank screen saver?

It is normal for Windows to go to sleep, even if scanning or running defrag, if the user stops interfacing with the computer. This is by design primarily for notebooks so users can be assured defrag does not run down the battery.

But if you are actively using your mouse or typing on the keyboard, it should not go to sleep. Have you scanned for malware?

So just to be sure, the computer goes to sleep when active, even when you are using the mouse, right? And you are able to wake the computer by moving the mouse?
