Windows blinking cursor at startup

Hello, I recently installed Ubuntu onto my laptop, it has one 320gb HDD. The installation went fine and I installed it alongside of Windows 7 Home premium.

Ubuntu was giving me problems so I decided to delete the partition it was installed in, from within windows. I'm Dumb. (The problem with Linux was irrelevant, swap space issues  )

When I restarted, the computer still tried to boot into Ubuntu, but wasn't able to do so obviously, as I had deleted it. I'm fairly certain GRUB was still there. I re installed Linux and it installed and boots up fine, but now when I select the windows 7 selection in GRUB, I get a blinking cursor. No error message, no OS not found press any key bla bla. Just a cursor.

So I validated that the Partition was still there, and linux seems to think that it is, the space for Windows is still there as far as linux knows, ( Not GRUB, from within the os) and it's formatted NTFS still.

Next, I booted into a Windows 7 recovery disc and did the auto startup up repair all in one option, which of course didn't work, so next I booted back into the Recovery disc, and chose Command prompt, i did the basic bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot. I even tried the exporting and deleting BCD outlined in this article: How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

Right now Grub is working fine, I can boot into Linux to do whatever I need to do, ( I don't want it a permanent solution to windows though )

I have a bootable Ubuntu 10.10 cd, and a Windows 7 Recovery CD ( Not a full install DVD), and a broken laptop.

Any suggestions on what to do next? Thank you

We frequently see GRUB render Win7 irreparable when on the same HD.

To try to start Win7, uninstall GRUB if possible, then boot the Win7 Repair CD, mark Win7 partition Active: Partition - Mark as Active

Now from the CD Recovery options list choose Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

If this fails, find a Win7 installer for your version and clean reinstall after wiping the HD of GRUB: re-install windows 7
