    File folders and names with BC/AD dates


    I'm trying to create a set of directories that show art from various eras. I want them to appear in chronological order. Thus, I want the BC years to proceed backward to 0 and then forward again after AD. I've tried putting negative numbers in front of the dates but this doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?

    This is Operating System Abuse!

    File/folder names in Windows are alphanumeric (plus a few additional characters) and alphanumerically sorted which means a sequence of numbers from 0 to 12 goes 0,1,10,11,12,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. "Negative" figures -12 to -1 go-1,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,-7,-8,-9,-10,-11,-12, and BC always comes after AD. Not at all what you want.

    What you need is a database application to manage the chronology and the behind-the-scenes data storage.
