    Shutdown + closing laptop lid

I have my laptop set to sleep when i close laptop lid.

But problem is, when i shut down my laptop, i have to leave it open. Otherwise it will go to standby in the middle of shutdown process.

Is there any way to disable sleep when shutting down, so i can close lid immediately after pressing shut down button?

Sometimes people install windows without fully reinstating the manufacturer's drivers and can't work out why they have not got various power options - just a general observation.

If you have all your manufacturers chipset drivers installed, windows 7 power configuration for Power buttons and Lid is found deep in the Advanced Power Options of the Edit Power Plan Settings, from the Control Panel applet, Power Options.

Another way is to take yourself to the Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Power Options>System Settings screen.

Each power plan can be configured to behave differently, so you may have to do this for both battery and plugged in options. It is fairly straightforward with options Sleep, Shut down and Do nothing.

If you set shutdown or standby from the start menu, the do nothing option is for you.

I don't think you understand the problem. Probably my fault.

If i close lid while windows is shutting down, it will go into standby. I want it to sleep when lid closes, but i don't want it to sleep when it's shutting down.

Sorry for being blunt, but is there any reason you can't just wait the extra 20"ish" seconds for it to shut down properly before going about your business?

No reason really, but i like to close laptop after pressing shut down.

It's not really important, but it would be nice if there is some way to fix that.

I drove into my garage the other day and shut down the engine while it was still rolling ahead. Darn if it didn't crash into the back wall and caused a lot of damage. Stupid car manufactures, can't they fix that problem? lol

What a great comparison. Closing lid vs turning off car. Closing lid cannot cause damage, it's like turning off monitor at PC.

Actually, repeatedly shunting your machine into sleep mode when it's attempting to shut things off is VERY prone to causing damage. I see machines bluescreen far more often than I'd like because of precisely this.

That's why I'm looking for solution for that.

What is the point of having sleep mode triggers still active after you order your system to shutdown?

i would suggest making it hibernate instead of sleep when you shut the lid, because it takes longer to hibernante than sleep so the shutdown procedure can stop the hibernation process and shutdown
