Windows 7: No Start Search, no Win+F, but Constrained Search works?

24 Mar 2011   #21

7 64 Bit

The guide for the repair install says:
You must have at least 8.87 GB of free space, more if you have a larger installation, on the hard drive/partition Windows 7 is installed on to do a repair install.
...which I do, but it's asking me for 15gig free, which is impossible. I might as well reinstall. And I do have the appropriate installation disk.

This is one of those moments where I'm regretting the way my PC is setup, and not because of the hardware. :/

I guess I'm going to have to live without Start Search until I upgrade. Pitty, I love that feature of 7.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions so far.

Uninstalling SP1 now

Edit: no dice, still broken. GAH!!
Edit2: Thanks everyone for your help. I've succeeded in "breaking" 7 by mucking around with user accounts, so I'm going to fresh-reinstall in a moment.

Start Search broken, doesn't return search.
I'm not really sure how to explain this and this is my first post so I think I will just show you, yeah, that's probably the best way. The best way I see to explain it is instead of a list of the files and programs found in the start search showing up it just shows a few files like Documents.file,...

Better and Really FAST DECENT Search program works on both X-86 and X-64 all builds.
Actually isn't it a bit confusing calling X-86 the 32 bit version whilst X-64 (a lower number) refers to the 64 bit version -- it's a bit like counting in Chinese (sorry any chinese folks reading this). I know historically it referrs to the Intel 8086 processor and all its subsequent developments...
