If you're still under warranty I'd use my HP one-year tech support to get help with this.

If you're not under warranty, HP will still sometimes answer your question via chat or email.

You've really done all you can here, putting your model number in the title to catch someone's attention who might have the answer, posting in General which gets most traffic. Let's hope someone who has resolved this issue stops by. Have you posted in HP's forum as well?

Meanwhile you can extract from the HP Recovery Disks each of the factory programs and utilities, so if you can find out which one lights the LED's you're missing maybe that is a possibility: Extract HP 3rd Party Software from RecovCD

    I'm running 7 ultimate 32bit
I used all the Vista drivers from the HP support site and the only thing that doesn't work are the caps/num and scroll lock lights. The keys work fine but the lights do not.

Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and Vista

Be sure to boot the installer to install Win7.

Diana: did you ever chat, call or email HP Support to find the fix for the missing lights? Sometimes they will help even if out of warranty.

No I didn't, and ya know, I never even thought of it.

Win 7 is not supported on this machine but I guess it cant hurt to call.
    Thanks Greg!

Well that machine doesn't support windows 7 but it's possible they made another with the same system component that does.
Drivers are not always model specific.
