Repair Install Hangs in Windows 7...Help

A VSS Writer System File was corrupt in Windows 7 and I decided to try a repair install. The repair appeared to be running fine (up to step 9 in the tutorial on this site) but hung while attempting to reboot.

My boot manager is showing 3 systems...the attempted repair setup, my original Windows 7, and Windows Vista.

I've tried booting Windows 7 thinking I'd try to rerun the repair after disconnecting all of my devices. Windows 7 starts normally but I can't access my C drive and when I try to run setup from the DVD I get an access denied message. Any way I can get control of my DVD?

I've also booted from the Windows 7 install disk and tried the repair option. I get a message saying that repair is unable to help.

I considered booting from Vista and running the upgrade but I don't get to choose which system to upgrade and I don't want to upgrade my Vista.

I may have to redo a fresh install of Windows 7 but I'd really prefer to retry the repair install.

    Please share your suggestions....Thanks!!

    Hi,

You can try booting from the Windows 7 DVD and selecting 'Repair Options' then command prompt. Once open type sfc /scannow this will scan all system file integrity & replace any that have been changed or become corrupt.

    Hope this helps :)
