    Problem with changing folder template

As Windows7 has a feature "Automatic Folder Type Discovery", it will automatically change the folder template of a folder to match the file type of the last file added or saved in the folder. Of course, you can change the folder template to one of General Items, Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos manually.

Here is my problem, for example, I have three folders: A, B and C. Folder A is located in D:, B is a subfolder to A, and C is a subfolder to B. (D:\A\B\C)

If I change the folder template of A, from General Items to Pictures, for example, the folder templates of both B and C will also be changed to Pictures. AND, if I change the folder template of C to Documents, the folder templates of A and B will be changed to Documents too. There seems to be a bond among the three folders, if I change the folder template of any one, the other two will be changed automatically.

At first, I thought the "Automatic Folder Type Discovery" might cause the problem, but after I've disabled "Automatic Folder Type Discovery", the problem is still a problem.

    Need some help, thanks.

Hello Andrei, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this is inside a library folder, then this is normal since all included folders in a library share the same folder view settings.

    Thanks Brink.

they are not library folders, just normal folders in Windows Explorer. And I don't use library, my library is empty.

I've searched the forum before with no answer to my problem, it's weird and annoying.

Double check to make sure that when you are changing the folder template that you have the also apply this template to all subfolders box unchecked.

Yes, I'm sure I didn't apply the template to all subfolders when I chaning folder template. What's weird is that when I change the folder template of a subfolder, the template of it's parent folder will also be changed automatically.

You might see if you may be able to change the folder template for only that specific folder after resetting the folder views of all folders back to default.
