    No Keyboard for startup repair

    Hello all!

I am using an older Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my Win7 HTPC. This usually works wonderfully, except when the new startup repair screens are shown. These screens REQUIRE you to click a button (or press Enter) to continue, and will sit there for all etenerty until you do. The problem is, they are shown before the drivers for the bluetooth keyboard and mouse are loaded, so I can not click them with out stealing a wired keyboard or mouse from my other pc. This seems like a pretty stupid choice to me, as every other such option has some kind of time-limit on it so that it will automatically continue.

Is there a way to either have the startup repair screens default to some option after a short time, or to completely disable them?

My baby likes to press the pretty blue power button on the machine, and therefore I see that screen often, and am getting tired of running for the keyboard every other time I want to sit and watch a DVD... :P

    Thanks!

Hey gpiper welcome to Win7Forums! I believe I know where you change this at:

    Boot into Windows 7
Go to ->start->type in Advanced System Settings hit enter->go to settings under statup and repair->change the wait time on recovery options time to your liking (also hit the check box bedise it if it has no check in it)

Hello Gpiper, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might also check your BIOS settings to make sure that you have a option similar to USB Keyboard support and USB Mouse support at boot enabled to see if that helps.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hey Shawn

Will that affect a bluetooth keyboard? I think it all depends on if it is just a bluetooth dongle hooked through USB (Would have to be to have support before boot for his keybaord and mouse...I think) or just a standard USB keyboard and mouse

I have a wireless bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo that the bluetooth receiver/transmitter is plugged into a USB port. If I do not have that USB optoin enable in BIOS, then the keyboard and mouse do not function during boot. When enabled, they work fine in any boot screens. :)

I figured so Shawn...I am just wondering if his is internal bluetooth or a dongle (more than likely it is a dongle)

    Wow... how time flies.
Thank you for the replies, and I am sorry I took so long to get back here. (I have been insanely busy recently!)

Thanks for the tip on the wait time setting, I'll give that a try!

The mouse/keyboard does use an external USB dongle, however they can be (and have been) used with an internal bluetooth card. AFAIK, this is the first bluetooth set that Microsoft made, and while I have heard of other sets working at boot time (sans software drivers), I have yet to get these to, yet. I'll look for a bios setting and let you know what happens.

    Thanks Again!
